Flourish Natural Body Care announces a new line of shampoos created from wholesome ingredients.

Woodstock, VT – March 10, 2011 – All-natural products are not created equal; in fact, some are created using a base purchased from an online supplier. But not Flourish Natural Body Care. This Woodstock-based company is the only company in Vermont making a variety of shampoos and conditioners from scratch.

“Many soap companies make all-natural shampoos, but they use castile soap or a purchased commercial base that they scent and bottle themselves,” says Kirsten Connor, owner of Flourish Natural Body Care. “Castile soap, while all natural, doesn’t work on everyone’s hair, particularly those with curly or long hair, so we developed a formula of gentle cleansers, conditioners, vitamins and proteins blended with our signature essential oil blends. Each type produces a different effect on your hair: nourishing, silky or moisturizing.”

Connor owned the successful retail store, Thistle Bath & Body, in Woodstock for several years. Her most popular body care product scents, like ginger elixir and lemongrass, have been updated and included in Flourish’s redesigned line. Although several Vermont companies offer handmade personal care products, she noticed that no companies were making all-natural shampoos and conditioners by hand. Connor and partner Darren McCullough developed a recipe — thickening the shampoo using only good ingredients and not polyethylene glycol (PEG) — and offered small bottles of shampoo and conditioner to guests at the Woodstock Inn & Resort.

“We created these formulas by reading all the ingredients on www.skindeep.com, which is an independent group that rates the safety of ingredients in cosmetics and body care,” says Connor. “We chose the safest and most beneficial ones to include in our formula. People will feel good when they read the ingredients on the bottle.”

Flourish Body Care’s shampoos and conditioners are free of sodium lauryl sulfate, polyethelene glycol and parabens, petroleum and mineral oils, artificial fragrances, colors dyes and preservatives. The new line of shampoos and conditioners include:

  • Honey Blossom: contains wheat protein, vitamins and honey to nourish your hair
  • Lavender Mint: silk protein smoothes and shines your hair
  • Patchouli Tangerine: a detangling formula with a soothing earthy scent
